Jade Plants help to keep your room moist by enhancing the humidity of air during the dry season. These plants increase your house’s humidity due to Crassulacean acid metabolism.

Absorb toxic chemicals and gasses from the air

If you keep a jade plant in your room it will purify the air of your room by absorbing toxic chemicals and gasses like carbon dioxide. It also removes volatile organic compounds which present in wall paints.

Basically this plant exploits carbon dioxide from air due to CAM (Crassulacean Acid Metabolism).

Proper care is the key to longevity of this plant, although the plant requires very little care to grow. A guy I know used to water his jade plant too much, causing his 11-12 year old plant to die. If you have a jade plant, learn about proper care or your plant may die no matter how old it is.

In this part of this blog post you will know how to care for an old Jade plant.

Give proper sunlight

These plants grow very well in the sun. They love sunlight very much. It is better to keep them in proper sunlight. When you plant them in your house, make sure that they will get proper sunlight.

Place these plants in an area of your home that gets about five to six hours of sunlight a day.

Water them at the right time with the right quantity.

The right amount of water should be given at the right time. Over watering or under watering causes damaged plants. Give them water, when the soil of the tub starts to dry.

How can you understand that your soil becomes drier? Here is a simple technique. If the soil of the tub is dry, you can understand that the soil is dry by looking from above or you can understand if the soil of your tub is dry or wet by inserting a finger into the soil of the tub.

Food

Now I will tell you about the food of this plant. Food must be given, because the plant gets energy from food. After one or one and a half months you can apply liquid fertilizer as food.

Many of us do not have the time to dig the soil and fertilize, so if you want, you can apply liquid fertilizer. which will easily mix with the soil and be absorbed by the plants.

If you want, like me, you can use the water obtained by soaking banana peels, dung manure or vegetable peels as a liquid fertilizer, which will keep your jade plant very vibrant.

Do not apply any fertilizer to this plant in winter as it cannot absorb fertilizer in winter and the plant is prone to fungus.

Cut off the dead or rot leaves and stems

It is not a good practice not to cut the leaves, stems or trunk of the plant if they rots. As long as you keep rotting and dead parts of the plant, they will absorb essential plant nutrients, which is not good for your plant’s growth.

Also fungal and bacterial infections can cause leaves or stems to rot, which is not good to keep. Because these infected parts can spread to the whole plant and cause the death of the plant.

So cut off the dead or rot parts of the plants such as stems, trunk and leaves as soon as you can.

Repot

Due to being in the same pot for 3-4 years, the soil in the tub of Jade plant becomes old, its quality decreases, its water absorption capacity is significantly reduced and the nutrients contained in it are also reduced. This causes various problems to the plant. Moreover, day by day the plant grows bigger, so the earlier tub becomes smaller for it.

As the water absorption capacity of the soil decreases, some of the leaves at the base of the plant begin to shrivel. It is better to repot the plant to get rid of such problems, although repotting is a little bit difficult for old jade plants.

What kind of soil should the tub be?

A very ordinary, simple and normal soil is enough to grow jade plants for indoor beauty. Ordinary and normal soil means a mixture of soil with some sand and some organic manure.

How to propagate Jade Plant

Just as caring for a jade plant is easy, it is also very easy to propagate. For its propagation, cut a few branches from the long branches of the plant with sharp scissors or a blade, then plant only in a tub of cocopeat, soil or wet sand.

Propagation of jet plants can be done in one part soil, one part cocopeat and one part of wet sand. Within a few months of propagation, you will see a new tree is formed.
